My mom just replied to an email today that Bunnycat has passed. I know that seems like a harsh way to deliver the news.. but I am at work...

Anyway.. see an earlier post - He was living the good life in SC with Mom and Dad.

Bunny always had a wonder lust as all cats do.

He began wondering out of the yard and toward the "road". This is where he met his predictable demise. An older woman hit him with her car.. Apparently he began to cross the road, cleared her car then darted back the opposite way second guessing himself and causing them to collide.

She stopped her car, asked a neighbor in their yard if they knew who he belonged to.

She and the neighbor wrapped him up and solemnly headed toward Marcia's. She is the cat lady.

Mom is having him burried under her dogwood tree, by Dad, whom bunnycat adored.

A very fitting spot as my mom's favorite tree is the dogwood and her favorite companion for the past year has been my Bunnycat.

he was quirky and pesky and fluffy and adorable.

I will miss him.

A Day in the Life of me..

Im 33 years old today. My mom tells me the story of my birth each year. I keep forgetting it. Here she is in her own words to tell it to you all:

I know I have told you the story before, but I always like "re-living" the birth of my girls. Wish I had had my mother to share with me. I played bridge, believe it or not, when in Mississippi and had been asked to make a foursome that Friday morning. I was not a great player, but it was fun and a good way to meet people. Anyway, I knew I felt bad, and thankfully had a doctor's appt. later in the day. When I went in, he said I was starting to dialate. So, I went home and cleaned up a little. I had a very good friend that lived downstairs in our apt complex. She had one daughter that was probably about 10. Daddy was off in another nearby town on business, so Carol drove me to the hospital and let Daddy know.
He got back in town just before the birth; you were delivered by a sweet doctor, and
the birth was the easiest of the three. I think it was early evening. So, that is how you entered the world and our world, on a muggy evening in Mississippi!

For lunch today i shared a hotdog with Teena at our favorite little dog joint.
Its yummy and fast and small and yummy.
Hot Diggity Dog! Thats mine with the velveeta cheese. They call that a "Texan" if you get chili on it. I declined the chili today. Teenas there with the "New York"
They have outstanding fries!
Its been a good birth - day so far.

grr. Ive been praying alot lateley about my attitude. I seem to allow anger to be triggered too easily these days. Especially at work. I love my job and what I do, but I am usualy the only person there and responsible for everything that happens. So I am tempted to feel sorry for myself and unappreciated and taken advantage of - at least that is how I justify being and assface.

So this morning I armed myself with prayer and an earnest attempt to not overeact or be too self involved. Last week I had left my employer ( and friend) a card at her home about how much I appreciate her friendship and what not and apoligizing for a terrible attitude the week before that we had worked together. She returns today from a week long vacation, these days can be a real test.. Alot of catchup and explaining to do - and in my mind proving myself.
I felt so good about making the right decision with the card, but now I am wishing it were not out there because what if I totaly screw up again and behave badly? Now that I have made the decision to be good, I have to be good. I just dont trust myself I guess. I have become too comfortable with the other angry me. Its like I see it as my right to act the way I want because of how hard I work here.

Here's to defying my flesh and really giving humility a try!

Bunnycat has made it to the good life. While visiting Mom and Dad in Greer, SC we dropped off bunnycat. This is Bun here:

He's sweet and fat and deserves a life free of Bizzystix - the rambunctious boston terrier.. Now he will live out the rest of his days with a woman that will spoil him, a yard to run and play in and two other friendly kitties to gossip with.
I will miss my Bunnycat, but hes not that far away and I can visit him anytime!

Harvey and Biz and I have been enjoying the holiday weekend in SC with my parents.
We always celebrate my Fathers birthday (july 3rd) along with Independence day.
Its been hot, but not as humid as it is in Nashville. Thats a nice break.
My parents backyard is something of a spectacle. Its very large, and full of plants flowers and trees. Bizzy and I spent a nice afternoon out there exploring while Harvey and Dad went to the driving range. He's getting in some practice with a pro.
By pro, I mean a man whose been playing golf since before I was born.

Biz loves to run the length of this yard. I was able to get a shot while he was still for a moment.

We've been playing fetch with the fallen pears off one of the trees in the back yard.. He loves to chase them though he stops quite often to nibble on them!

We found a clump of Ivey that is home to millions of Elder bugs. At least I think that is what they are called. Its so interesting how they clump together... Curious and pretty little bugs.

They have been off my finger since May because i outgrew them (ahem: gained weight).
We took them to the jewler FINALY over the weekend.
I picked them up today and they look brand new!

Growing up i only had one living grandparent. Martha LeGrand. She was known for many things. Something that kept us all in line and in awe was her 7 layer cake. Its just a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. But there is something really special about its flavor and the icing..As a child seeing it on a cake plate lovely and big, i assumed it was made by magic. It certainly tasted like it. As i got older i knew that it was made with skill and love but i assumed that i never would be able to master it.
This Christmas Harvey and i went to South Carolina to celebrate with my parents.
My mom has been making this famed cake for a few years. Hers is good, but it does lack the magic. Other relatives have made it and theirs also lacks the magic. So i really wanted to learn how to make it even though i know that it will never ever be as good as Marthas. I just wanted to see how it was done and if i could do it. I tried. It tasted great - not as great it had no magic. I only did four layers. i wanted to do them all but mom was worn out from just four so we stopped there. One day i will do the 7 layers. Here is a pic of the messy beginings. you can see my layers are swaying a bit.

We have been out to see some local bands lately. Mostly bands of people we know.
Seeking a burgeoning group of artists and bands, we have been fulfilled.

Drawing from my limited experience back here in Nashville, I feel that the places to play here are promsing. Dont get me wrong , The Tonic Lounge will always have a special place in my booze soaked heart, But lets be real - no live show ever sounded good there. ever.

Saturday we were fortunate enough to stumble into The Basement to catch a band called The Suns of Norway. Not only was the band great - Grimey behind the soundboard made them sound fantastic.

Hello All,

We have been back home in Nashville, TN for 1 week and four days. So far so good. We are happy to be home, but look back to the fabulous city of Portland with fond memories. There is just no comparison between your HOME and a really cool town. Different things all together. I guess we struggle a bit with "abandoning ship" because people assume we didnt like Portland.
Portland is a great city, we have many people there we care deeply for....... but we had not let go of the connection to this place.. that is all. bla bla bla.

Here is our new apartment. We were a bit out of our element with a more modern setting as this. We have been accustom to buildings that were built in the 1920's and had charm oozing from the walls. This place has ease and convenience. Its comfortable and roomy... so close to our circle of influence..The pool is fantastic i must say.. as is the dishwasher. HA!!

I have been back at work at TSC Marketing (website in progress) for a week. Its great. I love that business, and the women i am fortunate enought to work with. Its challenging and fast paces and fun. Just drowing in creativity.. I really needed this change. So thankful that Teena would want me back. She is an amazing person and dear friend.

Harvey has been pounding the pavement for work. He met with some folks at Baptist but it may take some time to work things out there... He has been looking into work at some old haunts in the meantime.

It has been a week of reuniting with good old friends, old aquaintinces, and some faces that are familiar but unknown. We look around and see things we think we know.... but cant qite place. So much history here - its alot of fun. This town makes me miss my sisters terribly... Nicole and Natasha and my non blood sisters too.. Sonya, Kristie, Billyjo...
But i revel in the blessings of friendship with the people that are still here. We are so rich in love and so thankful.

We have a ways to go - but our roots are getting the nutrients they have so longed for.

Yesterday was my last day at work. (harveys was last friday). I am so happy to be moving on from this place, but i am so thankful for my time here too. Im thinking of all the wonderful souls i was privledged enough to care for. They are such a light to me, such inspiration. The strenght that those men and women posess...When i feel that i am facing a tough time - i just think of them and know that i can do it.

Katrina has Harvey and I stunned. We have been watching the news coverage with heavy hearts - as we feel that we want to know, we want to see..
but we still feel utterly helpless. I am especially upset by this and i am not sure why - it feels more personal to me than other recent disasters. Perhaps is because its my southern neighbors, and i am swollen with southern pride. Mississippi is the state that i was born in, but i have never spent any time of memory there.. I just ache for those people.. and the beauty and history of that area that has taken such a blow.

Seeing what those people are surviving makes our plight a lot smaller. Its good to get perspective and come out of myself.. focus on the bigger things. That feels like such a funny thought sitting here surrounded by material possessions in boxes wondering if they will survive the move. Suddenly i am not so worried about my favorite red platter. It just does not matter.
i DID NOT mean to rhyme that.

Red Velvet Cake: Southern Treat or Delicious Myth?

Im southern, obviously. I grew up loving Red Velvet Cake. No one, in my opinion can make one better than Aunt Ann. I guess I always thought it was a truly southern thing.. I have had a heck-of-a-time finding a bakery in the NW that makes one let alone has heard of it. Most of my friends have not either.
A gal I used to work with who is from Cananda was so intrigued - she made one for me for my bithday a few years ago. ( IT WAS GREAT).
I also always thought that it was a really tough cake to make - sort of an urban legend. This was mostly because my sister tried it when we were younger and it was a blood colored mess. ( she mixed up her sugar and salt i think _ CLASSIC, right?)
SO....Im making it today for my birthday, in the form of cupcakes. I will be using the family recipe i grew up on. Most recipes dont differ by much... I cant wait to devour a few dozen!!
I find cupcakes are easier to force on coworkers than slices of cake.
I did find this little fact about the origin of this mighty cake:

1. I am a pen fiend. Not all pens, mostly gel pens and roller balls.. i have strict criteria for what will pass and not pass.
a ballpoint is harshly scrutinized.. pencils rarely make it into the cup... you all will be touched by this one day as you get to know me better. i usually have half dozen to ten pens on me at all times. I rarely loan them out so dont even ask!
Ive been known to lift a pen from somewhere if its really good. Office Depot to me is as good as Tiffany's... almost.

2. I fear the outdoors and nature. I have been camping once, in my almost 32 years and even then it was frou frou.
I dont mind suffering with good friends tho!

3. I like hot food hot and cold food cold.

4. I wont eat melons. they have veins. certain food textures kill me. ( i only started eating oranges at age 29)

5. Im modest to a fault.. harvey hates this one.
